It seems China forbids homosexuals from donating blood. Well, obviously I was baffled. Later I figured, many countries around the world strike out homosexuals when it comes to blood donation. Every donor goes through a series of tests before he is allowed to donate his blood. And I don't see why homosexuals cannot donate blood. If they had not been involved in any kinda sexual activity during the stated amount of period, then shouldn't they be eligible? What happens in a moment of crisis where a rare blood type is required and the eligible donor is a homosexual?
Do we save a life or search for a heterosexual?
Do we save a life or search for a heterosexual?
maybe there would be a specific reason to it, some kind of problem with their blood etc??
ReplyDeleteMay medically its not safe as HIV, hepatitis C and other infections that can be passed on through blood transfusions as they have an HIV prevalence 60 times higher than the general population, 800 times higher than first time blood donors and 8000 times higher than repeat blood donors.
ReplyDeletePrecaution is better can cure...so may b these could b one of the reasons.
At times we just let ourselves become too biased and take things over board.
ReplyDeletei think its stupid for them not to donate blood if they dont have valid reason for then not to doante
ReplyDelete@ Ubaid: There is a form that donor are given to fill in before the actual donation. It seems that, the moment you identify yourself as a homosexual you are striked out.
ReplyDelete@ Naz: Well, if the tests pre-blood donation tests prove safe; they should donate right? In fact, the transmission of diseases between heterosexuals is higher than homos. Then again, your reasoning makes sense as well.
@ Siras: Haha..thats kinda true...
@ Shilpa: Exactly! Well, there are some reasons that do make sense. But such reasons apply to heterosexuals as well, and they will be banned from donating blood. Then are some where no tests are done, and they just root out homosexuals immediately. Kinda sad...
oh, well then its bad!!
