Casting off Caste

US Human Rights Watch have urged India to recognize caste segregation as a form of discrimination. Given the fact that the basis of the whole nation indirectly rests upon the ancient caste system, will India acknowledge it? The official documents carry the column for caste status. If India does agree it is a form of discrimination, it will have to make major amends and eradicate the system. Will that be possible? If not for the urban areas, the rural areas are still heavily dependent on the caste system. According to this documentary, a middle aged villager; father of a 4 year old was saying that his daughter will be married off to someone of a similar caste when she is 12 or 13. The world's largest democratic nation has some thinking to do...

  1. I read this on todays newspaper ..m sure India will deny that thrs any and if it is they dont approve it...but we all know what the true story is. Just next to this news was the report if Dalits being stoned by non dalits because they entered the temple somewhere in Tamil Nadu! Indian govt before even denied abt the naxals being a threat...but just look at the situation...its scary!!

  2. Swatantra: Thank you!

Naz: Guess, the news beside it says it all! Sad. There was once India actually said it is practising "decent discrimination" but not racial discrimination! -_-
